Normally who needs
Shiatsu treatment
goes to the practitioner's study and he's received in a quiet,
comfortably and relaxing ambient, which helps a condition
of calm and in absence of thoughts.
The most important place of the surgery is beyond doubt the
zone of the
Futon, a particular mattress filled with
cotton, (or a particular tissue derivate from coconut) and
it's used in the East for a lot of situations of daily life.
The receiver lays down on the futon on the floor, or in alternative
according to the single case that may require, on a
bed
or a
treatment chair.
There are different positions for the receiver, due to necessities:
laying supine or in a prone position, laying on the side,
sometimes sitting with the correct support of special cushions
or supports (Nekrol). The position has to be the most comfortable
and stable on the floor, because an instability of the supporter
must be quickly balanced by the body of the practitioner.

The receiver has to take off the shoes, but not the clothes,
as usually pass with other kinds of techniques, because in
Shiatsu is not a require to work on nude skin. The clothes
can be a simple t-shirt and a pair of trousers of cotton.
The visit starts with a short verbal dialogue. Then starts
the downright treatment, during which the dialogue between
practitioner (called in Japanese "Tori") and the
receiver (called "Uke") continues on an other level:
without words, but with an intense and deep contact through
the hands' pressure on the body. The treatment continues silent,
in this manner practitioner and receiver can maintain the
attention on what is happening. The practitioner can feel
through hands the truth not only of the physical, but also
of the energetic, situation, and its changing, the receiver
can in his turn feel the whole of sensations of the flowing
of energy through the perception in different moments, in
the different hot or cold areas of the body.
Shiatsu becomes a not verbal dialogue between practitioner
and receiver, a dialogue that carries out on different levels
of perception.
The practitioner will perform the treatment through sequences,
called "Kata", which are one of the fundamental
characteristics of Shiatsu; the pressures had to make with
correct perpendicularity, constancy, lack of muscular effort
and reception. The treatment is performed on the whole of
body, abdomen, back, limbs and head. At the end of the treatment
the receiver will remain some minutes laying down in total
relax to allows at Shiatsu to continue its action inside him,
while he gradually takes contact with the external reality.
